I’m proud that HSGP is smart enough to be informed by science, and to hold virtual meetings for Sunday Speaker Meetings.
At the same time, I am concerned about HSGP’s finances, given that at least some of its receipts come from breakfast sales at Sunday Speaker Meeting. Just because meetings are not being held on-site doesn’t mean that bills stop having to be paid.
Therefore, I decided to go to the location on HSGP’s website from which I can make a contribution via PayPal, and made a $250 “Love what you do contribution.” I figure that this is more revenue than HSGP would have received if Ann Marie Eisentraut, Elizabeth and I would have paid for Sunday Speaker Meeting breakfasts until sometime after, I hope, live meetings can be held again. Yes, I know that Ann Marie, Elizabeth and I would not have been able to attend the meetings anyway, since we live 2000 miles away, but that is not the point, is it? The point that I want to make is that we must not forget that the organizations on which we depend, depend upon us for the financial contributions that we make, and that we must continue to support our organizations in spite of any obstacles that would interrupt our contributions.
To the best of my knowledge, PayPal charges the recipient 2.9% of the gross remittance, plus 35¢. I made all of my contributions at once to keep from being nickeled and dimed 35¢ for every transaction. I should probably have mailed a check. But then, sending a check by international mail takes a long time.
I would like to encourage other HSGP members to join me in supporting HSGP in this challenging time. You can mail a check to HSGP at:
Humanist Society of Greater Phoenix
PO Box 15112
Mesa AZ 85211-3112
You can make a contribution to HSGP via PayPal here.
If you happen to be able to deduct charitable contributions, HSGP’s EIN is 20-2849612.
Thank you for your support.
