Sunday Speaker- Anastasia Bannikova: Peace Corps – a Meaningful and Fulfilling Service to Others and Oneself

Learn about Peace Corps’ mission and goals, dive into volunteers’ lives, projects, challenges and victories, and ask questions about service and how to join Peace Corps.

Have you ever heard of Peace Corps but was afraid to ask what it is? What do volunteers do, where do they go, where do they live and how do they adjust to different cultures?

Anastasia Bannikova will tell her story of coming full circle from having a Peace Corps volunteer teacher when she was a kid in a post-Soviet Kazakhstan to being a volunteer herself in not one, but three countries – Ghana, Ukraine and Armenia.

Peace Corps’ mission has remained the same since its inception in 1961 by John F. Kennedy: to promote world peace and friendship, and Anastasia’s story is a living proof.

The 3 goals of Peace Corps to fulfill its mission are
1) to help the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women;
2) to help promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served; and
3) to help promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.

Peace Corps has been a non-partisan and non-religious entity that helped thousands of people to understand each other and themselves a little better. Anastasia will share her impressions on her service, projects, travels and shared values, and will answer questions on how to join the ranks of over 250,000 returned volunteers.
