Melanie Trecek-King: Why Facts Don’t Change Our Minds

You know how when someone disagrees with you, and you educate them with your evidence, they say, “Of course you’re right! How could I have been so wrong?!?” Yeah, that doesn’t happen very often. But there is a better way! In this presentation, science and critical thinking educator Melanie Trecek-King explains how to think better and have more productive conversations.

Sunday Speaker Topic:
Why facts don’t change our minds

Description:
Have you ever tried to change someone’s mind with facts, only to have the conversation descend into an unproductive fight? Maybe a better question is: what have you changed your mind about? Having productive conversations over important topics requires an understanding of how our minds work. Science and critical thinking educator Melanie Trecek-King will address these questions and more to help you learn how to think better and have more meaningful conversations.

Biography:
Melanie Trecek-King is the creator of Thinking Is Power, an online resource (Thinking Is Power) that provides engaging and accessible critical thinking content.
