Sunday Speaker – Greg Freeman: Homelessness and Housing Affordability in Phoenix

Sunday Speaker Topic:

Greg Freeman: Homelessness and Housing Affordability in Phoenix

Description:

The Greater Phoenix area has seen large increases in homelessness and housing prices in the past few years. This will be a conversation about many of the factors that contributed to the problem and how we can all take action to help.

In the past few years, the Greater Phoenix area has seen huge changes in both its housing market and in rates of homelessness. These problems have become unavoidable in our lives and are applying strain across many sectors of our society. In my talk I will examine several of the root causes of the issues we are currently facing; including homelessness as an issue of morality versus economics, the lingering impacts of the 2008 housing crash, the intersection of zoning and construction, and many other factors. We will then look at the actions available to elected officials, industry professionals and citizens to reverse these trends.
