Sunday Speaker – Carly Schorman: The Ethics of Optimism: Approaching Hope as a Moral Imperative in the Modern World

Sunday Speaker Topic:

Carly Schorman: The Ethics of Optimism: Approaching Hope as a Moral Imperative in the Modern World

Description:

Being a humanist in the 21st Century can get pretty depressing. In this conversation, we will explore a “toolbox” approach to shaping out a personal philosophy that helps individuals hold onto hope in times of despair. Defining optimism as a moral imperative can be the most effective tool in combatting the problems of modernity, including capitalism, technofeudalism, fascism, and the revocation of civil rights in the United States. A brief examination of ethical philosophy through this lens reveals the revolutionary power of hope.
