This Week's Topic: Arizona Talks - Pursuit of Humility, Integrity, and Civility in Our Public Discourse
Arizona Talks is a nonprofit built with the goal of bringing together communities of diverse backgrounds and political leanings to have vigorous yet civil discussions about Arizona’s most critical issues and hot button topics.
As a state and nation we cannot afford to continue exploring the path of increasing divisiveness. History has shown repeatedly that it will not go well for any of us. It is the responsibility of each and every one of us to do better - to be more honest with ourselves about our own thoughts and stances, to give more benefit of doubt and compassion towards those we disagree with, to tone down the overall hyperbolic language and rhetoric that inundates our public and political discourse.
Carlos and Jered look forward to discussing their goal of improving discourse and civic health by bringing together a broad range of leaders from elected officials, academia, media, business, and advocacy organizations from across the political spectrum to share a stage and an audience, in hopes of reminding them they are not just leaders for those that agree with them.
What makes Arizona Talks a unique organization in the civil dialogue space is that we are not advocating for “moderate” or “centrist” policies and views. History has also shown that the middle has not always been right and the wings have not always been wrong. Arizona Talks isn't necessarily trying to bring people to the center. We are merely trying to get everyone to the table.
As an organization and as our name implies, Arizona Talks believes that talking is action. We are grateful to HSGP for allowing us to share this message and mission.
