Humanities Project Monthly Cultural Presentation & Meeting

Make Fire! Bill Oliphant presents All Things Primitive

Bill Oliphant, a new HSGP member this year, will present one of his passions "All Things Primitive" at our next Humanities Project get-together.

To introduce the topic we will view a documentary made by Southern Utah University titled "Primitives Among Us". There will be time for Q&A after the video, after which Bill will demonstrate the bow-drill friction fire technique. He will bring enough bow-drill sets so that anyone who wants to can give it a try. But be forewarned, it is not as easy is it looks to start a fire by rubbing two skicks together!

Come share a fun evening reviewing skills that all of our ancestors had to master to get us to where we are today. There will be lots hands-on stuff so you can get a feel for what it was like back in the stone age days.

"Primitive (first) skills are our shared inheritance. It is the shared thread which links us to our prehistory and binds us together as human beings." -- Steve Watts

The HSGP Humanities Project holds free and open meetings on the 2nd Friday of each month at 7pm at HCC. The majority of the evening is given over to one or more of our HSGP members or guests, to share with us some aspect of arts & humanities that they are passionate about!

We are committed to bringing outstanding people from the world of humanities to present to HSGP at least once per year at the Sunday Speaker Meetings.
