The two primary responsibilities of a traffic engineer are safety and efficiency, which often conflict. Balancing these two traffic objectives is often quite difficult. Two recent mainstream books are titled "Confessions Of A Recovering Engineer" and "Killed By A Traffic Engineer". Self-created and animated PowerPoint slides, on a variety of traffic engineering topics, from years of university teaching and professional transportation presentations will be condensed into the available 30 minutes. Discussion and questions will be encouraged throughout the presentation and at the conclusion.

Bio:

Paul Basha has two-and-a-half civil traffic engineering degrees, is a licensed Professional Engineer and a registered Professional Traffic Operations Engineer; which are conclusive proof that he can accomplish meaningless tasks exceptionally well. He has over 50 years of experience as a traffic engineer or transportation planner. He was Scottsdale Traffic Engineer or Transportation Director for 22 years, a consulting traffic engineer for 24 years and counting, and a part-time instructor at ASU for 27 years and counting.

Paul has a distinctive reputation for his thorough analyses and ability to solve complicated transportation safety and traffic flow problems. He has been a valuable resource analyzing and solving transportation problems as a consultant hired by numerous municipalities including Avondale, Carefree, Gilbert, Maricopa, Mesa, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Surprise, and Tempe.

As a consultant, Paul has performed traffic impact and mitigation analyses for more than 250 proposed developments, and parking analyses for more than 50 existing sites.

He has presented at 32 professional traffic and transportation conferences, lunches, and workshops. Paul has written 6 articles published in the Institute of Transportation Engineers Journal.
