Sunday Speaker: Cathy Sigmon – Civic Engagement in 2022

This year, in the name of the people in Arizona, the majority in the state legislature is proposing legislation to muzzle and micromanage teachers, restrict our freedom to vote, institute a "vigilante" abortion ban, remove even more common sense gun safety measures, and expand--AGAIN--the school vouchers. Do these measures represent your ideals?

The Arizona State Constitution doesn't just suggest we get involved in our government: it demands it, by stating "All political power is inherent in the people." Unfortunately, there is no shortcut to reviving and fortifying our democracy. We need to pay attention to what our state legislators are doing in our name, especially after watching all the dysfunction at the federal level. This year, the majority in the state legislature is proposing a monstrous grab bag of legislation to muzzle and micromanage teachers, restrict our freedom to vote, institute a "vigilante" abortion ban similar to the one in Texas, remove even more common sense gun safety measures, expand--AGAIN--the school vouchers that drain funds from public education, and so much more. In spite of it all, there is much we can do to move our state in the right direction! We'll cover multiple opportunities to raise your voice, and inspire you to make a difference in 2022.
