Privacy Statement

As Secular Humanists, we’re concerned with the safety of your information. We strive to remain as transparent and fair as possible and take every reasonable precaution to safeguard your information. This Statement of Privacy applies to the Humanist Society of Greater Phoenix (herein HSGP) web sites and other electronic systems and governs data collection and usage. By using the HSGP web sites and other electronic systems (herein Web Sites), you consent to the data practices described in this statement.

Donor Privacy

HSGP is a 501(c)(3) charitable educational organization as determined by the Internal Revenue Service. Donations to HSGP are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Our Federal Tax ID Number or Employer Identification Number (EIN) is 20-2849612.

As a 501(c)(3), we may be obligated by the federal, state and local governments to disclose information about our donors. HSGP will comply with all of the laws that are relevant and applicable.

Unless otherwise directed, your gift will be used for the projects and reserves at the discretion of HSGP. HSGP collects information about our donors and may, occasionally at the discretion of HSGP, recognize outstanding donors for the contributions to HSGP. If you do not wish to be publicly recognized, we can accommodate you, please let us know that you would not like to be recognized by contacting our Membership Chair by writing a letter, calling us (480) 844-5044, or emailing us.

Collection of your Personal Information

Information you give us

HSGP collects personally identifiable information, such as your:

  • email address
  • name
  • home address
  • telephone number
  • cell phone number
  • employer
  • picture or likeness
  • family and/or household relationships
  • social media account usernames
  • event attendance
  • birthdate
  • skills and hobbies
  • gender and/or preferred gender and/or pronouns

For example, many of our services and events require you to sign in or sign up. When you do, we or the services we utilize may ask for personal information to store with your account. You will be bound by the privacy policies of those services if you chose to use them.

As members of HSGP, we collect your personal information to better serve you in your membership, maintain healthy communication, and communicate important events such as voting for new board members

Information we get from your use of our services

HSGP also collects anonymous demographic information, which is not unique to you, such as your:

  • age
  • preferences
  • interests
  • favorites

Device information

  • device information such as your hardware model, operating system version, unique device identifiers
  • IP addresses
  • browser type and version
  • access times
  • referring web site addresses

This information is used by HSGP for the operation of services, to maintain quality of services, to improve the services, and to provide general statistics regarding use of the Web Sites.

Log information

HSGP collects and stores information in our server logs. These are useful for ensuring that we maintain our systems to accommodate load spikes and troubleshoot problems or monitor for security breaches.

  • details of how you used our service, such as your search queries.
  • Internet protocol address.
  • device event information such as system activity, hardware settings, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request and referral URL
  • cookies that may uniquely identify your account with our Web Sites

Use of your Personal Information

HSGP stores all contact information that is voluntarily provided by Web Sites’ visitors. HSGP uses the information you provide about yourself to fulfill your specific request, whether you are purchasing a product, donating, or joining or renewing your membership. HSGP will never share your credit card information, phone number, or email address with outside parties except to the extent necessary to fulfill your specific request. HSGP may also, from time to time and at its sole discretion, share your information with board designated members for the purposes of fundraising, conducting nominations and elections for board leadership, for promoting attendance, or requesting volunteers for events, activities, or committees.

HSGP reserves the right to correspond with you both through the US Mail and electronically to promote events, activities, and fund raise.  We may also send literature and alerts for organizations with whom we have shared goals and partnerships.
HSGP values and respects your privacy.  And we will work to maintain the integrity and security of any information you choose to provide to us. HSGP may share your name and mailing address with other like-minded organizations. This exchange benefits HSGP in a number of ways, including the opportunity to increase our membership base by reaching out to potential new members, thus increasing overall effectiveness. HSGP will not share, sell, or exchange your email address or phone number with third parties.

HSGP will never ask to provide your Social Security number, Driver’s License number, or any other personal identity information.

We will share personal information with like-minded organizations or individuals outside of HSGP when we have your opt-in consent to do so.

For legal reasons

We will share personal information with companies, organizations or individuals outside of HSGP if we have a good-faith belief that access, use, preservation or disclosure of the information is reasonably necessary to:

  • meet any applicable law, regulation, legal process or enforceable governmental request.
  • enforce applicable Terms of Use, including investigation of potential violations.
  • detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues.

Security of your Personal Information

HSGP secures your personal information from unauthorized access, use or disclosure. HSGP secures the personally identifiable information you provide on computer servers in a controlled, secure environment, protected from unauthorized access, use or disclosure. When personal information (such as a credit card number) is transmitted to other Web sites, it is protected through the use of encryption, such as the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol.

Changes to this Statement

HSGP will occasionally update this Statement of Privacy to reflect company and customer feedback. HSGP encourages you to periodically review this Statement to be informed of how HSGP is protecting your information.
