Sunday Speaker: Isis Gil, ACLU Arizona – Campaign for Smart Justice

Experience the Criminal Justice System and its inequities through the ACLU of Arizona’s Smart Justice Welcome Session

How much do you know about Arizona’s criminal justice system? How does it affect individuals and their families when they do get in the system?

Isis Gil, of the ACLU of Arizona, will present an eye-opening account of what happens in the criminal justice process and reveal the realities of our broken system. This presentation is a brief introduction into the harms Arizona's criminal justice has on thousands of people and their families.

She will involve our audience as participants through the entire process of incarceration to fully immerse us in the realities of our broken system. Throughout the presentation there will be moments to reflect and discuss some of the most troubling aspects of the criminal justice system. This will lead us into a discussion of how to take immediate action to transform the way society approaches justice.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona is presenting the Campaign for Smart Justice Welcome Session. The goal of the Campaign for Smart Justice is to reduce Arizona's prison and jail populations by 50 percent while fighting racial disparities in the justice system.
