Humanities Project: Heavy Metal Music Part 2 with Christina Hepler

Last time we journeyed into the roots , now we start with the birth of METAL.

On February, Friday the 13th, 1970 Metal was officially born and put to vinyl. And the world has not been the same since. This time Christina will take us through the first generation of Metal, known as The New Wave of British Heavy Metal (or NWOBHM). We'll explore the music, as a reflection, of the contentious society that it was born into, as well as its lasting influence today.

NWOBHM (nū-wă-bă-hm) is it just the first generation of metal, and it didn't just change the world and music, it was a way out of being nothing but factory fodder for a whole generation of kids that listen to it. Coming out of the Midlands of Britain (The North), this music gave kids so much, changing the world at the same time.

BYOB and snacks to share always welcome.

The HSGP Humanities Project holds free and open meetings on the 2nd Friday of each month at 7pm at HCC. The majority of the evening is given over to one or more of our HSGP members or guests, to share with us some aspect of arts & humanities that they are passionate about!

We are committed to bringing outstanding people from the world of humanities to present to HSGP at least once per year at the Sunday Speaker Meetings.
